        Go to http://java.sun.com/j2se/ and follow the link to 1.3 and you
should see Linux, Solaris, and Windows options.

        The RMI-IIOP download just contains a gigantic .class file that
you execute to run the install.  You can download it in any format
(happily, Linux can up ZIPs, TARs, GZs, and just about everything that
files are distributed in), extract the .class, and run it.  There are
directions on the page - or at least a link to the directions.

        If the tutorial suggests you use PortableRemoteObject, then it's
definitely aimed at JDK 1.3, and should probably be changed to say so.
