Well, since nobody else is answering... For production, I'd stay with JDK1.3, at the latest bugfix release available for your platform. It's relatively recent that JBoss has run in 1.4 and I'm not sure how many are using that. Likewise, I haven't heard anyone complaining of core dumps, etc. with any 1.3 versions.
