Thank you Joachim. You are correct. It takes massive funds for J2EE
licensing. We have allocated the money for this, have agreed to the terms
of the J2EE certification, and are awaiting for the final "go ahead" from
Sun.

As you can see, it takes real money to run an open-source project.
Especially a J2EE-based open-source project as we must pay Sun for the TCK.
Not only that, but it takes time and money to promote the project to news
media, financial analysts, and Fortune 500 companies that need free support
when they are evaluating the open-source project.

JBoss Group has taken on the financial responsibility of running the JBoss
project since its inception in 1999. There is no corporate sponsorship nor
any VC money or investment. Full time developers need a salary. JBoss
Group has hired a PR firm to help us promote the JBoss project. We pay for
the hosting of www.jboss.org. We pay for FREE conferences at JavaOne:
JbossOne, March 2002. JBossTwo, June 2003. Free conferences are expensive
to put on. JBoss Group offices in Atlanta cost money. Marc continuously
criss-crosses the Globe giving talks at JUGs and visiting financial
analysts, media, and potential JBoss adoptors, all to promote JBoss
adoption. And finally, we have an Open-Source lawyer on payroll to protect
the interests of the OSS project and of the company itself. All this costs
loads of money.

Most of JBoss Group are open-source developers who have decided to make a
full-time living off of Open Source. The rest of JBoss Group are
individuals(sales, marketing, account) who have bought into the business
values of open-source as stated in Marc's "White Paper". I myself left a
high-paying, secure, corporate job to join JBoss Group, even took a paycut
to do something I actually believe in. JBoss Group is committed to bringing
in as many developers as possible that want to make their living on
open-source.

Best regards,

Bill
