Hmmm, there seems to be strong interest to move the
docs to docbook format.
Do you think you would be able to automatically convert the document into the new format, bring it
into cvs and document what has to be done to edit
it and how to create various output formats?
Well, this is an *huge* task ;^)
Surely
you would not have to write hundreds of howtos, but
the one or other document page (containing mostly links)
or ant task would not be bad. What time would you need to do that? Who would like to do that?
I can give my support.
How many are out there? Is someone there who will help if a developer simply refuses to send docbook and simply sends txt?
No probs, I think.
But the main problem for me still is that we would switch to
another master format without agreement from the person who has maintained the manual until now and is also one
of two main authors. I hope you all understand that point.
That's no problem. I think that docbook is a task with very low priority, at least for me. So I think we can wait Philip and listen his suggestions / idea. I think the current goal should be to have a new dbforms release. Personally, I must sync my sources with the original cvs tree... ;^)
I agree with all advantages of cvs based docbook from a
technical point of view.
Ok, maybe you're right, what if:
- we still update the current manual for a limited amount of time. It would not be much work and Shawn has
already offered to do that. The manual will be offered
as doc and as pdf.
Ok.
- the docbook gurus out there set up a section within cvs for the new docbook docs, document it and evaluate
how to transform the current manual into that format,
they add ant tasks etc. This will not be done tomorrow, so we need the old manual anyway for some time.
Ok. Is there any XML-XSLT docbook guy here ? ;^) Unfortunately I'm still into the darkness of the dsssl/openjade realm...
