Maybe this is the fix - isn't there a file that comes with Windows
called "HOSTS.SAM"?  On Win 95, this is in the C:\WINDOWS or
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory I think.

Rename this file to "HOSTS", and add entries into it for your localhost,
and other host on your lan, if necessary.

Reboot.  (Of course!! :-)

AFAIK, you'll now get MS's approximation of Unix name lookup: it'll
first look in this file, and if the name is not found, will try DNS.
