I agree that some sort of firewall workaround is required, I happen to think server assisted transfer aren't it. I would prefer an HTTP based method, although the "null Jabber client Jabber server" method has some nice characteristics (which is the server assisted model). I also would like to see whatever we decide be "client-transparent".

However, if both clients are firewalled, they can't talk to each other. > Therefore, shouldn't it rather read "p2p file transfer not supported" > (NATs, firewalls, etc.) - at which point I could fall back to p2s2p? That's probably better, but the gestalt of the discussion at the moment seems to be "server-assisted transfers are stupid," which is why I posted in favor of server intermediation. You pointed out another way in which server-assist might be advantageous -- distribution. If p2p is the One True Answer, maybe we should ditch the jabber server altogether and just chat over gnutella. _______________________________________________ jdev mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://mailman.jabber.org/listinfo/jdev _______________________________________________ jdev mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://mailman.jabber.org/listinfo/jdev
