Nothing was changed here from before in regards to anything but schedule. See
the recommendations in e.g. the May 2013 security advisory[1], posted a day
after 1.509.1 was released, or the November 2012 advisory [2], posted three
days after 1.480.1 was released.

Cloudbees offers a full year of support, but it appears that only security
fixes are backported -- if you're lucky --, no other bug fixes.

While the LTS release line was always supposed to have a new major release
every three months, with minor fixes in between (basically what was now
decided!), this schedule just has never worked. While 1.447.1, 1.466.1, and
1.480.1 were only delayed about a month each, 1.509.1 took 165 days, and
1.532.1 even 208 days to be released after their respective predecessor 1.xxx.1
release (additionally, 1.532.1 wasn't announced properly, leading to some
confusion) -- instead of ~90 days as planned.
