I don't want to do it from the customizer...I'd like to do it inside my own
Action class.
I was hoping there would be a way to do something like (I know this won't
work, but maybe it helps illustrate what I'm after): 

Portlet portlet = new Portlet("MyPortletName");
portlet.setTitle("NewTitle");

Anybody got any ideas?

The customize does not allow the title, or description, to be edited. 
Based on how parameter are edited, changes are not limited to the
current session.  They are saved in the user's PSML files.
