<security role="??"> is maintained for backward compatibility. New
installation should not use it. Existing installation should convert
<security-entry>

The user and role attributes are allowed in the <allow-if ...> tag.
"*" = all, i.e. user="*" = all users and role="*" = all roles. This is
described in the proposal.

All registries entries and psml entries will allow the <security-ref...> element.
I have tested <portlet-entry>, <security-entry>, and the PSML <entry>
tags. Other are allowed, but some of them may not make sense.
