I recommend the new beta. I have Jetspeed 1.0b2 running on Tomcat 3.1M1 and it
crashes about once a week (although I restart it frequently so I don't know how
long it would normally hold up). The new version seems to work better,
although it also has slight differences in the way things are set up. In
3.1M1, there is a webpages folder that maps to /. In 3.1beta, there is a
webapps folder that contains a ROOT folder that maps to /. Look at
webapps/ROOT/WEB-INF/web.xml to note any changes in the way the web.xml files
are written. Hopefully this will save you a headache or two.
