No.

I'm not using an alternative, I just wouldn't use Jetspeed.
Primarily because the install procedure just isn't acceptable for
an Apache product past 1.0. It's free software, and you have
done a lot of work, and it probably has some great features. But
I'm not going to spend a week trying to get it running. I couldn't
get it to work without a great deal of futzing around.
The code looks really good, and I'm sure it does work well. But I think
you should stop adding features and work on an install and some
good examples. Yes, it's not the most exciting thing in the world, but
if you want anyone to use it you have to have both a super-clean,
easy install and good portlet examples for people to look at. It makes
evaluation
very easy, prompts potential developers to go "hey that's cool, maybe I
could add some stuff", and non-developers start using it right away
and you get some feedback. Not having a great install is the easiest
way to kill interest in a project. That's why I haven't looked at it
in a while.
I know you're probably doing all the work, but I guarantee that the
biggest complaint is going to be the install. If another portal project
came along with a tenth of the features, but installed like a dream I
think Jetspeed wouldn't fare so well. It's all about accessibility, on
every level. And people are lazy, and sometimes rightly so. Why should
10,000 people have to edit 3-5 configuration files, copy files around
when an installer (or jar file) could do it? Even as limited as the
procedure is, everyone
is going to make a mistake editing one of the files, or copy a file to
an incorrect location ... then they will curse and think there is something
wrong with Jetspeed. First impressions count.
