Yes, Hypersonic is not only free (not as in free beer as you know) but also an
all-Java-very-small footprint DB. I can't remember the url for download, but
it's freely available just search for it, sure google will help out.
Probably the reasons for going ahead with Hypersonic are mainly due to the fact
that it can be embedded in a dist to serve as proof of concept, sure you can
then substitute it for your fab DB. It's all Java, you know.
