Jetspeed is built on top of turbine. Turbine has some utility classes for the
handling of uploaded files, but I don't know exactly what functionality are you
looking for.
On the other hand, there is a turbine project called Jyve ("y" instead of "i"),
aimed to FAQ building and handling, that in a sense is a threaded messaging app.
I don't know their current status, and there may be problems until both projects
settle into using compatible versions of the turbine jar, but if you look at it,
you will get the feeling of what would you have to develop to get your webapps
up and running.
Currently I'm not aware of any public working example of Jetspeed, except
XMLModeling.com, but they don't use personalisation.
