Rebecca, I'm glad to hear that one of us has learned to travel light - that's something I'm going to have to work on.
I took a weekend road trip to Houston (6 hr drive) with my younger son (10) & a teammate & his mom for a soccer invitational. The trip up was fine, weekend was enjoyable (though we didn't win...). The trip back was a nightmare! We headed home about 4pm Sunday, hoping to get home for 10:30 pm or so. Long story short, her '98 Suburban, which had a complete check-up before we left, broke down about 45 minutes outside Houston. Luckily another group from our team passed by in a Tahoe and stopped to help us. We ended up towing the Suburban to Lafayette (about 2 hours toward home) and 10 of us rode home in the Tahoe. Talk about getting close... To top it off, 2 of the kids were sick - 1 being mine - and we didn't get home til almost 2am. We had to leave most of our luggage in Lafayette with the broken car - which is when I realized that I'd packed way too much stuff. I hadn't used half of it, but I had it "just in case". What a pain! Finally got the luggage back, sorted out the dirty laundry and started washing, found my main set of keys and a few other essential items I'd had to leave behind. Also, I arrived home to discover that the dog had been vomiting and having the runs (she's okay now) and the cat decided to use the tortoise's aquarium for a litter box (it contains sand) - which stunk to high heaven. I guess the cat is wondering why I keep a tortoise in the litter box?! I was so exhausted that I ended up sick myself with a head cold. And this is the simplified version of my life... I wonder just how bad it could be if I hadn't been decluttering and simplifying for the past 2 years?
