Debbie,

I went through the same thing.  DD is fine in public school but DS was not.  After mopping up a kid in meltdown at the end of each day, I decided to go another route.  I am lucky to have a decent income, but with privates costing between 10 and 22 thousand a year in the Boston area there was no way I could swing it as a single parent.  So after flipping around and looking at all the options, I decided to homeschool.  I figured the time invested in homeschooling was equivalent to the time I would have to spend on freelance work to make tuition payments.  This is our first year and DS is loving it, as am I. If you've even considered it, I testify to how wonderful an educational solution it can be and if you don't want to work for other reasons - your own satisfaction, a social outlet, etc.- every bit as valuable as time spent in an exhausting or boring job.

good luck in whatever you decide
rebecca
