Based on what I've learned and my personal experience, having a clutter-free bedroom is extremely important. That would be one of the first things I would work on. My bedroom is always peaceful & clear and I feel more relaxed just walking into it. Having a clear family area and kitchen is also important, but I would not dump my "to be sorted" stuff in the bedroom. Is there another area where you could keep the things to be worked on? If so, I would definitely do that. Once you break the habit of dumping stuff in the bedroom it will be easier to maintain. I have an attached single garage which I use as a "holding" area when I clear junk from other rooms. That way I can deal with it as I have time without cluttering our living area. Sometimes I leave things boxed there for awhile til I'm ready to continue and make decisions on it or deliver it somewhere.
