Your bedroom sounds wonderful, Diane! I'm so looking forward to the day that
my BR is like that. From the little bit I've learned about Feng Shui, I know
they say to keep the area under your bed cleared out, not to use it for
storage space. Well, we recently got a new mattress and box springs (which
is heaven, BTW!) and we went from a full size to a queen size bed. We had to
clear out the old bed and make a little more room for the new one. Well,
there was so much stuff under the bed. I knew it was where I kept my shoes,
but of course, a bunch of them had drifted towards the middle of the bed.
There were a bunch of misc. toys of my 4 YO under there too. Another really
bad thing about my BR is that that is where my office is set up and where I
work. There's just no other room anywhere here. And my 4YO often plays in
here during the day while I'm working. It felt sooooo good to clear out
everything from under the bed. I threw away at least 10 pairs of shoes and
only have 6 pairs left, none of which duplicate each other in function. For
example, I have my sneakers, some "hiking" boots (don't hike, but to wear
when the weather's yucky outside with slush and stuff), a pair of clogs that
double as slippers, and two pairs of dress shoes, one navy and one black.
Usually either one or the other of the dress shoes should go with anything
dressy I might wear. Oh, and I have a pair of flat black shoes that are
"casual" to wear when I don't want to wear sneakers. There were, of course,
also magazines under the bed, too. Stuff I laid (is that correct? LOL) next
to my bed so I could read it before bed, but never got to, and it ended up
getting pushed under the bed, too. Anyway, we cleared that all away, dumped
so much stuff, and vacuumed, and it felt soooo good! I am sleeping a lot
better already, and I'm determined to keep the floor underneath my bed clear,
even though we're short on storage space here. Also, I'm planning to
eventually move my office to the DR and make that into an office, but we need
to redo the walls down there first. Once we do, I have our BR envisioned
with how it's going to look. I can picture it being so serene and restful.
I really can't wait!

You're right about this Diane! I really need to declutter because we live in
a row house that is over 100 years old, and the two closets it does have are
pretty useless and they're very shallow and small. Every room in my house is
being used and there's not much storage space left. I think one of the main
reasons the BR is the dumping ground is when we have people over and are
doing crisis cleaning, things get put into bags and are "hidden" in the BR.
I'm working to reclaim my space. It doesn't help having the office in there
- lots of paperwork generated there.

I think you're right, Diane. Plus, once I declutter and find a home for
everything, I think that'll make a world of difference. Right now, so much
of my stuff is "homeless" and just drifts from place to place.

Wow, that's great, Diane! Thanks for the suggestions!
