Hi Leslie,

I have a few suggestions. . .skullcap lavender valerian tincture (which you probably already have tried) Melatonin and if worse comes to worse a couple of Tylenol PM. (which are beastly for the liver, but can be a lifesaver if judiciously used) 

The other part, the anxiety with DH away and your being on  guard as keeper of the house can probably be helped with a really active tiring day, but no exercise after 6 or so.  Lock doors and windows and puppy pile with the kids in the living room if you need to.  (I also read somewhere that couch sleeping is helpful for anxiety because you have 3 sided protection with arms and back of couch - some primal reptilian brain thing.)  This always works for my anxious wakefulness (I'm single and only have underage kids to keep me company at night)  The trick is to make the couch into your bed with sheets and blankets and get ready for bed.  If you fall asleep with your clothes on, you're up in the middle of the night WIDE AWAKE!!
