Ardella, My son will also be 16 in July. I hope to let him get his learners permit after taking drivers ed. My understanding is that here they don't charge extra for that - until they get a full license and can drive alone. I plan on keeping the permit indefinitely, until I can afford to help him get insurance (at least he would be getting some driving experience). Initally he would be a second driver on my car anyway, which is also cheaper.
Problem is, being the only driver in the house is very hard on me. It would help alot if he could drive sometimes. Other problem is that it will be difficult for him to get much of a job without a car - not much to do near our house other than a little grass cutting or babysitting. Guess we'll just see how it goes. Thanks for the input.
