Hello Joan,

It is a peninsula or bar, and I love it.  We thought about an island, but don't have the extra space. It is the only workable counter space in my kitchen. All the other counters are very small. We did sacrifice cupboard space but I love the openness. I depend on my pantry even though it is not close to my kitchen.

When we moved into our house 6 years ago, the counter was a major catchall, constantly cover with what my DH fondly (NOT!!!!!) referred to as my piles of sh*t!  I have retrained myself since then.  This is the center of my home, if it looks bad the whole house looks awful. If I can make the change, so can you. My DH puts papers and things on the little counter between the stove and the doorway. They drive me crazy there, so I deal with them immediately.

We often eat breakfast or lunch there. When I have more guests than space at my table, we have the kids use the bar. It really works for me. My kids do there homework there. It is a large work space and I use it all of the time.

Kindest regards,
Vanetta

Vanetta,

We are in the midst of planning a new kitchen here.  Do you like your island or bar or whatever you call it?  I really like the concept, but am so afraid that it would become a catch all.  Do you eat there, or do you eat at a kitchen table?  Looks great!

Joan
