I would love to have a slow cooker or crockpot, but we don't have them here in the Netherlands, and when you buy one in the States there is the problem of the right voltage (electricity).

You can always buy an adapter, which will sort out the voltage stuff. But isn't the Netherlands also 110V? I can't remember; it's been a while since I've been in your wonderful country. But lean in, girls: Here's a neat domestic trick from a bachelor who normally knows very little of these matters. It's a kind of poor man's 'slow cooker', but is just as effective:

When you want to roast a chicken, take the whole prepared chicken (with potatoes and stuff), and... (here's the secret), instead of putting it in the oven a couple of hours before eating, put it in the warming drawer under the oven (I'm not sure if the latest stoves still have them), in the morning. Take it out that evening. The chicken will simply fall off the bone, and taste like heaven! Listen to me: I'm sounding like a gourmet cook! Try it, however. You won't be sorry. You can send the thank-you cheques later ;-)

Tat,
A crockpot is a kitchen appliance that plugs in for
the sole purpose of "slow-cooking". It is ususally two
pieces that fit inside one another. The outer shell
contains a heating element and is made of a type of
metal I think, but doesn't usually get too hot to
touch, (at least the new ones shouldn't). The inner
part is the pot which you put in various foods to
cook, some kind of ceramic or stoneware, I think. It
fits perfectly inside the outer shell. The crockpot
has a lid too. You just throw whatever in and let it
simmer away all day. For example, if I make a chicken
stew in mine, Veggies and meat go in by 9:30 and
dinner is ready by 6pm. (It really does cook that
slow.) Most have knobs for low or high temp, but even
high would still take 4-5 hours. Sure makes the house
smell yummy!!
