I am using 2.6.6-rc2. It is the standard kernel that comes with Gentoo. Gentoo has the 2.6 kernel as a development package, so you need to modify your mask if you would like to be able to emerge it.
As far as configuring it - I had to build most drivers into the kernel, as opposed to modules (as in 2.4). Especially sound and wireless. Everything worked straight out of the box, though - including (surprisingly) my Cisco Aironet, which I never got working in 2.4 -----Original Message----- From: James [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Tuesday, May 04, 2004 9:21 PM To: Bakalov, Vesselin (Card Services) Cc: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: [jffnms-users] Test [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: I did not see an option for a 2.6 kernel. The stage one build I did was with a 2.4 kernel. Once I complete their installation process, the first thing I want to do is build a 2.6 kernel. Do you know where a guide is for 2.6? It looks pretty standard with 'make menuconfig' I was going to get X finished and then use the x interface to building several 2.6 based kernels with options as to which one to use at boot time. Which version of the 2.6.x ( on gentoo) kernels are you most happy with? James >I just built my laptop with Gentoo. My advice - if you are doing a fresh build - go >with the 2.6 kernel.
