I enabled debugging and will watch the logs and let you know what I
find. all the times I have run the poller from the command line I have
been su'd to jffnms. The box is running debian stable base install with
the jffnms dependancies and jffnms as the only additional software
installed.

in setup, and let the poller run from cron, after that look at the logs
in logs/poller* Then we will be able to understand why it doesn't work
when you launch it as the 'jffnms' user (cron). You can also 'su' to
jffnms and run the poller manually. Maybe theres something (SELinux,
some weird IPTables user module, etc) that is preventing a non-root user
