I opened the system and checked everything. May bad cooling cause
permanent disk errors? I noticed the drives where somewhat hot and there
was much dust inside the case. I just finished cleaning everything and
checking cables.

Since I am using the same LiveCD from the installation, the driver may
be still the buggy one. I was just trying to update my system since at
the time I installed it SATA was pretty new. Due to another problem, I
am not able right now to burn the latest Gentoo LiveCD.

Ok, here that's fine. When the system enter the maintenance mode, the
filesystem is mounted read-only. I can access my files.
