John, Yes, I have always kept it turned off. It's just that iTunes is such a processor hog, that it not only less responsive than most applications, but also takes longer than most applications to load and start. A new user is often wondering "what went wrong" when using iTunes the first several times. You can turn this off with insert H and arrow down to turn off dynamic sound. Dynamic sound is designed to turn down the music volume so jaws can speak and then turn it up after it is done speaking.
