You've told us enough to confirm that help is working fine on your machine. Once in the calculator, press alt-h. You may land on "about," but don't press enter here. Instead, arrow up or down for the actual help content.

Just type calc in a run command and you have a fully accessible calculator with scientific, programming, statistical functions and even a date calculator and unit converter.
