Jaws has a little utility that can make working with the tray items easier, try hitting jaws+f11, it then shows systray items in a listbox and there are buttons for various click actions.
Note that there may well be two icons for the same thing in the tray, it is not a particularly robust system against program crashes and there can be artifact icons. If that is the case and you are using the listbost interface I would suggest that you try your desired action on the first item in the list that matches the program you are interested in.
