Loved the additional ways to handle line spacing with Control 1, 2, & 5. Very efficient. Thanks.
The Alt O followed by A landed me in the Autoformat section, which I believe allows you to duplicate an existing named sections formatting, but did not provide any options for adjust line spacing, alignment, fonts, and such individually. What did I miss? Thanks again for jumping in. Subject: RE: setting Word in office 2010 for single lines I'm a little late to this party, and it is possible that I may have missed a response, but there are two other ways to set line spacing: First alternative: Press control plus 1 for single spacing, control plus 2 for double spacing, and control plus 5 for 1.5 spacing. Second method: Press Alt plus o followed by the letter A. That lets one apply pretty much all of a paragraph's attributes, i.e., indent, first line indent, left and right side indents, justification, line spacing, spacing before and after paragraphs, and so on. Note that the Alt plus o followed by a is left over from Word 2003. Most of those old commands still work in Word 2010. That one, however, is the only one I use regularly. I second the motion when it comes to the applications key. It is wonderfully useful on the task bar, and it is essential (almost) when working with tables. -----Original Message----- From: Jfw [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Dave Carlson via Jfw Sent: Saturday, December 20, 2014 7:53 AM To: Adrian Spratt; The Jaws for Windows support list. Subject: Re: setting Word in office 2010 for single lines Here's something I've kept for years. These instructions will set up the Word 2003 styles (including single line spacing) as the default, so there will be no need to change each document as you go along. This works in Word 2007 so hopefully will also work in 2010. 1. Open the Home Ribbon (ALT-H) 2. Navigate to "Change Styles" (G) 3. In the drop-down list, press ENTER on "Style set" to open the list of style options 4. DOWN ARROW to Word 2003 and press ENTER 1. After setting the style set to Office 2003, you need to make it your default. 2. Open the Home Ribbon (ALT-H) 3. Navigate to "Change Styles" (G) 4. In the drop-down list, select "Set as Default" and press ENTER You'll now have the same style layouts as Office 2003. I think I can contribute one suggestion. I use what I find a shorter way than your steps 1-3: 1. Press the applications key, then p for paragraph. (Then pick up with step 4, alt-n.) That's it. It's amazing how much time the applications key saves in Word 2010. Last thought. Isn't it necessary to conclude the process by tabbing one more time from default to the "Okay" button? I always do. -----Original Message----- From: Jfw [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Bob Boyd via Jfw Sent: Saturday, December 20, 2014 7:18 AM To: 'Barbara Hansen'; 'The Jaws for Windows support list.' Subject: RE: setting Word in office 2010 for single lines Barbara, Here is my method in Word 2010 to change the line spacing within a paragraph: 1) From within any Word document hit the Alt key to get to the ribbon. 2) Use the left and right arrow keys to get to "Page Layout" then hit the down arrow to select. You should hear "Lower Ribbon" 3) Use the tab key until you hear "Paragraph" then select with space bar 4) Alt N will take you to the line spacing and "S" or the up and down arrow keys, will select "Single Space" 5) If you also want to change the spacing before or after a paragraph (return key), then an Alt A will take you to the "After" setting. If you wish to have single spacing everywhere then set the "After" to "0". Setting it to "10" the usual default, will put one line after each paragraph, but will leave the line spacing within each paragraph as you set above. 6) Tab on down until you hear the "Set As Default" button and select with a space bar. If there is a shorter method, I will welcome hearing of it too. I do the control 1 keystroke, but it doesn't always work. How do you set the single line spacing to default? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Wishing all of you a Merry Christmas.
