Hi Mario,
When you're searching for files using the start menu, if a file is the first
search result, then it isn't automatically selected, and Jaws doesn't read it
out. If you press down arrow three times, you'll move to the first search
result, and you can then carry on pressing down arrow to move through all the
results.
Once you've selected the file, and if you want its path, then you can either:
1. open the context menu, choose open file location, and windows explorer will
open at that location.
2. Or press shift+application key to open the extended context menu, and choose
copy as path. You can then open a text editor and paste the path.

Dave, that's what I thought what would happen, but nothing is spoken as
I type a filename.
searching for everything else works as expected. I suspect there's a
setting somewhere that needs enabling,, but haven't got any idea where
to look.

Once you enter all or part of the filename, the search will come up with
different categories, such as files, documents, messages, etc. Just use your
cursor arrow keys to move up and down through the list to see if your file
shows up.
