Hello,
I am blind myself and thus search for ways to improve my experience of
Slimdevices products.
First of all I want to point out that being able to use my music
collection via a web interface is a huge step in the right direction.
Compared to rather blindly picking a cd from a shelve it is wonderful.

However there are some issues left:
- I need a loud and somewhat cumbersome computer (notebook) in my
listening room. This is somewhat undesirable since I need power wires
and possibly other things.
- I have to use a web interface that even when using skins that are
less sophisticated than the default is somewhat uneasy to use for blind
people. I would rather prefer a human readable form of the command line
interface allready present in Squeeze Centre.
- Using the IR-remote bypasses all this issues for sighted people.
However it will not be useful for blind people. Having the player
output spoken or other accustic feedback is not an option. We could do
this via the server but we would interrupt the listening experience.
Now what came to my mind is the jive hardware platform. It is linux
based and speech output should be rather managable since it has a head
phones jack or even better a speaker.
I took a look at the UI description in the slimdevices wiki and found
that the output is well structured i.e top line main frame bottom line
for status and things. It doesn't contain much graphics and we could
possibly implement alternative descriptions for status icons.
What do you guys think?
Cheers
Jeronimo
