Exactly. The plugin first tries to get karaoke lyrics in LRC format (e.g., [1:23.56] Blagh balah urgh). If the lyrics server doesn't have any of these, it reverts to non-karaoke lyrics which must be manually scrolled. I'm currently implementing the karaoke functionality on the SC plugin.
