Hiya, I don't like hijacking someone else's thread, so I'll give my impressions in a new thread; I hope that's ok.
I've already posted my comments about *my* stupidity in not knowing how to set up devices on my own network. And I've already replied to someone else's remarks about the SBC screen having effects on it when you press buttons. So now I'm going to post some more general comments on the pair as I set it up. Firstly, during the setup problems with the receiver it would be useful if there were some suggestions given on the SBC to indicate what the problem might be. It's got a display, so maybe it could be used to suggest things - like 'have you checked your MAC locking', and maybe an indication of what the light colours mean. When the SBC was showing the 'I can't get the SBR to talk to me' page, the SBR was showing a white LED. I understood that this meant that the SBR *was* Connected to the SC or SN, but clearly it couldn't be because it wasn't allowed on the wireless network. There is clearly some logic that's wrong there, I think. In the web interface, whilst the SBR was upgrading, the message told me to press and hold the brightness button to make it upgrade the firmware. This is misleading as... well there isn't one :-) Maybe a different message should be used when a SBR is present, possibly indicating that the white-flashing light means it's doing the upgrade and not to worry. Now, on to the remote. This is fine, generally (problem with the display mentioned previously notwithstanding). One thing that is of note is that the click-when-you-move is enabled by default and I wasn't used to this as it's really annoying and had turned it off on the other SBC. When trying to navigate through artists the accelerative scrolling is in use. However the clicks don't appear to be any different - I honestly didn't think I was going any faster at first. After a moment I realised I should ignore the sound cue as it meant nothing when scrolling acceleratively. I don't know what you can do about that, but it doesn't seem so useful as it is. One other things that did come up during setup... I tried to shut down by pressing and holding the off button. And then I *Think* I pressed 'back' whilst it was playing the noise and showing the 'goodbye'. And it didn't shut down. I left me on another screen and just didn't do it. I'm not sure if that's intentional or not, but... it was odd. Sound wise, I don't notice any difference from the SBR - maybe it's better, maybe it's worse, but my amp and hearing are poor so I'm not a person to judge. The light on the front is very bright, and I can't see a configuration to dim it. Ok, so without the display there's actually no need to leave the device anywhere that it's visible, but still it's very bright - certainly a lot brighter than I'd like to have shining in my bedroom at night. Finally... my feeling of the whole ? I keep looking up to see what's playing. I miss the display! Yes, it's smaller, yes it's got a fancy remote but... it doesn't feel right. I think what I might do is put the new SBR in the second bedroom in the house and let my brother use it, whilst I keep the SB3 in my room. Or maybe the living room. I just like my display too much. Or maybe I'll learn to live without the display. I'll see. I hope that helps for my first impression anyhow. -- gerph ------------------------------------------------------------------------ gerph's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1819 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=43211 _______________________________________________ jive mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/jive
