I haven't seen the new controllers but after taking apart my beta model, just to peak at what was inside, I had a similar issue upon reassembling the device. I quickly noticed that I had not tightened down all the screws holding it together, causing the body to warp ever-so-slightly and make a subtle creaking sound, like an old door, when I scrolled or pressed the buttons. This also caused some discoloration of the screen.
Specifically, the two screws on either side of the battery, slightly above the battery, midway up the controller's case. A quick tighten of all the screws made the problem disappear. Could this simply be a matter of the new devices not having their screws fastened tightly enough?
