Setting the alarm from the SBC is awkward - I've had the same troubles as you mentioned and I put it down to finger trouble.
When I enabled it first and then set the time - it lost the enabling. When I set the time first and then enabled, it lost the time setting (back to 00:00). I put this down to driver error but maybe not. It make me think the UI needs simplifying.
