The remote has a working speaker, and will display a clock when music isn't playing. How hard would it be to add "local" alarm functionality to the remote so that it starts beeping on its own at the set time? The accelerometer could be used to turn it off when the remote is picked up. The remote in its charger stand would make a fine looking alarm clock on a night-stand next to a bed.
