Yes, there are a few plugins already for games, lyrics and the nifty
RetroBrowser. These actually run on the controller themself and
communicate back to the server if they need to.

Well you can ssh to it... Someone will no doubt port something truly
stupid to it at some point (wonder how well it would run nethack?) and
we will all wonder.. why.

I dont think you could port Firefox to it, though...

If you just mean, "can I add menu items?" the answer is sure.

At the bottom of the 'Home' menu (which has the obvious things like
Music Library, Internet Radio, etc), there is a 'switch players' item
which lets you switch to another player. You can set backgrounds based
on player, so Midnight (dark blue) for one room and Cement (greyish) for
another, and wispy smoke for another... Then you know which player you
are controlling without reading the top of the screen which tells you
the same thing...

Well it talks to Slimserver, so what I would do would be to look at
some of the server side plugins to execute arbitrary commands (usually
used to shutdown the server and such remotely) and adapt them to issue
the commands you need to control your PVR.

Then look at some of the SBC plugins and see how they call a component
on the server.

I don't see why not: Jive can tell the server whatever it wants to...
and the server can do whatever it wants when the controller tells it
something... so between plugins on the server and on the sbc, that
isn't impossible.
