Back to spares...I finally visited my PO Box and picked up the battery I ordered from Logitech. It works just fine in the original beta jive (SC) remote that we all got last fall. This is the order page:

Since I hadn't used that SC since the beta duet packages were sent out, it had a pretty old firmware on it and I was having a hard time updating. The network update procedure just kept failing immediately. I found I could ssh into the SC using PuTTY, but I couldn't manage, for some reason, to connect using WinSCP which is how I've dropped the jive.bin firmware file into /mnt/mmc on the jive in the past. But, low and behold, the commands available under jive's busybox shell include wget! I thus used wget to download the firmware and the update went smoothly after that. So, the old beta SC (with the non-optimal antenna design) is back up and running.
