I just successfully changed the MAC address on my "JHB" SBC by editing
/etc/init.d/wlan and hard-coding in a call to:

/sbin/ifconfig eth0 hw ether 00:04:20:4C:FA:47

..and then rebooting the SBC.

I'm still getting the annoying "invalid mac" message on bootup, though.

But the SBC does indeed connect with that new MAC. The setting even
survives a SBC software update.

In the unlikely event that we actually NEED valid MACs for these SBCs
(e.g. at some future time when the SBC is capable of audio playback and
can be a SqueezeNetwork client) then SlimDevices can hand out MAC
addresses to those of us in need. But, 999 times out of 1000, a SBC
will be connecting through a router doing NAT anyway, so I doubt that
there will be any actual need.

Is there anyone who actually understands ethernet who can confirm
that?

So..my guess is that this is just any annoyance that we'll have to put
up with until Richard or someone can throttle that warning.
