Under your 'Tools' menu you should find two interesting things.
Tools -> Sun Java Console
and
Tools -> Internet Options... -> Advanced -> Java(Sun) -> Use Java 2 v 1.4.* for <applet> *SHOULD BE CHECKED*

Not sure if you heard the recent news RE: microsoft and sun settling issues RE: java. SO windows doesn't come with a jvm by default. The above link will install the JVM for you.
