no, absolutely not. But I see it as a possible replacement. I'm going to experiment in a "never to be committed" check-out (I promise!) and see if I can do all the callback functionality without callbacks.
Rather, it is a general mechanism for querying information about the currently loaded model. It is targeted at external programs ... Java & JavaScript.

I think that it is related to the callback mechanism in that the callback mechanism (and 'show') is currently the only way to get information about the model and the state of the display.
exactly. That's why I wanted to specifically implement all the "show" functionality....and a bit more.
