Jmol Developers,
I made some changes to the JavaScript/Java interface and may be
onto something. I am no longer seeing any wild fluctuation in
memory whatsoever at the URL below. Loading reasonably large files
seems to result in only minimal memory increases. Please take a
look and answer a few questions for me:
OS X 10.4.6
Safari 2.03
JVM 1.5.0_06
a) does http://fusion.stolaf.edu/chemistry/jmol/xtalx load OK for you?
first time at the page it does load, but after approx 10 seconds of
'spinning beachball' (does not happen with Jmol usually). the second
time at the page had no beachball, and a very short page load time.
b) does the "waiting for applet" title message disappear within a
few seconds? (You may not even see it.)
yes.
c) do the radio buttons work?
first time at the page, I pushed the 'first molecule' button, and it
seemed to work. the second button I pushed was 'file positions' and
it locked up my browser (beachball). had to force quit. the second
time at the page, the 'first molecule' button locked it up. no
errors reported anywhere.
d) press LOAD. Everything seem to be OK?
nope. :-( third time at the page, I pushed the 'load' button and it
locked up my browser. I could not continue with the other steps.
