I just looked at the RasMol cartoon ... the last time I looked at it was about a year ago.
It does not look particularly appealing to me ... I probably should have taken a look at it before I sent out my previous message :-)

I do like the sheets.
They are 'boxy', too? set hbonds sidechain is roughly OK with the cartoon shape.
for example, I like your idea of
showing directionality in the helix cartoon.

Yes, I see that adding an arrowhead to the helix cartoon would be helpful.
