hi OSX users,

(cross-posting this to the jmol-usr list as well.)

Many browsers on OSX, including Mozilla and Firefox, use their own JVM
instead of the Apple JVM. This is a problem because, while the Apple
JVM includes support for LiveConnect, Mozilla's JVM does not (as of
right now).

TAKE-HOME MESSAGE 1:
If you want to use Jmol.js, or any Javascript in conjunction with the
Jmol applet, you MUST have LiveConnect support!

obviously this is a problem for OSX users unless you run Safari all the
time. fortunately, there is a way to use LiveConnect with Mozilla
browsers. I have posted the solution on the Jmol Wikki
<http://wiki.jmol.org/JmolOsx#preview>. it involves downloading a
separate SF project (Java Embedding plugin) and copying two files to
your copy of /Library/Internet Plugins.

TAKE-HOME MESSAGE 2:
You can solve this problem by following the simple instructions at
<http://wiki.jmol.org/JmolOsx#preview>. You must do this to use the
Jmol-applet with javascript on OSX browsers other than Safari!

If you have any other alternatives, please post them. if I am spreading
misinformation, my apologies - and please correct it. also, if you have
any questions or comments, please let me know.

BTW, I have tested the solution on OSX 10.3.6 with Jmol 10pre19, and it
works fine OMM.

regards,

tim
