I have two observations which I'd like to mention about the Jmol and POV-Ray relationship. After some scripting etc I obtain my crystal structure on the Jmol window and set perspectiveDepth off. Then I open the dialog box for POV-Ray Rendering, checkmark 'Image size', Width=1024, Fixed Ratio=4:3 and I see in the Height window a flu 768, which is fine, but when I punch 'Go!' nothing happens.
[1st Q: Is this a bug and can it be fixed easily??]

If I choose Width=768, [4:3, and 576] it works and I get a bmp or ppm picture, but it is taken with
a 'perspective' camera (which is the default for POV-Ray).
[2nd Q: Can 'set perspectiveDepth off' command be made transferrable?]

If I open pov file in POV-Ray, (apart from resetting the width and height) I can change the default and
put 'orthographic' as the first parameter in the statement

camera{orthographic
location < 0, 0, zoom> right < -Ratio , 0, 0>
 look_at < 0, 0, 0 >
}

but this time I get a picture of a full-page sphere (a single atom instead of hundreds of them). [3rd Q: If Q2 is not possible to be solved, is there anybody in this list who is familiar with POV-Ray and
can tell me what to do to obtain a nonperspective picure?]

TIA

Sinasi

That sounds interesting, but some work is to be done before it can be

Yes ... quite a bit of work.

and it means that each webserver using the Jmol applet will need
more configuration to allow pov-ray export.

Correct ... and it is this ongoing support that concerns me.

Currently pov-ray support is quite basic in the application. I am
working with Miguel to to improve it, but it will probably take a lot of
time to be done.

Agreed.

Let's first do the work on improving the povray support within the
application.
