Eric,

Unfortunately, this is a browser/jvm issue. Applets have no control over
the environment in which they run.

I have seen other complex applets (most notably video-conferencing
applets) where the user is warned not to touch the screen.

If people have ideas on how to address this issue I would be interested in
hearing them.
