Wouldn't it be possible though to split the applet into several Jars and
arrange for all but the first to be loaded on demand? Much like the
division that was already suggested, only that the applet would not be
limited in any way, just load each Jar as/when the user chooses an
action that requires a certain class - couldn't that be done with a
custom class loader? Maybe one could then provide a way of pre-loading
parts before they're needed, to web masters (through some applet
parameter and a script command) as well as users (through a menu item
and the option of executing that same script command). Mind you, I have
never looked at the technicalities of class loading, I'm just thinking
aloud.
