I recently updated from 10.x and now I have the same problem. I have tested 
previous versions (11.2.9 and 11.2.8), and the bug is there too.

    labels "%e"; color labels black

colorizes them white, the same is with

    color labels [0, 0, 0]

any other color seems to work, so I can temporarily fix it with almost black 
[1, 1, 1] color..
Some environment info: arch linux, jre-6u2-1
