I believe that I have just stumbled into either an oversight, a bug or --
most likely -- my not keeping up with version changes...

Anyway, I recently decided that it was time to consider upgrading a
(private) site that I maintain from Jmol version 11.6RC16 (signed) to the
current version. I downloaded and installed Jmol 11.9.10 into my sandboxed
version of the site and started testing all the features/functions that the
site requires. Everything seems great & the site runs fine "as is", so the
next step was to start implementing some of the new features. As a result,
I've made the following two observations:

i) when I turn on "set allowgestures", the "click-and-throw" works nicely to
initiate rotations in a given direction. However, once antialiasDisplay is
turned on, the gestures no longer function. However, I should also say that
I find the "touch" necessary to initiate the ongoing rotation to be tricky
to attain & perhaps with antialiasing on the timing becomes even more narrow
and I am simply unable to achieve the correct mousing action... Turning
antialiasing off does recover my ability to initiate the rotation however
(and I've gotten much better at it with all this testing!) I do think
though that this may be a browser specific issue. Gestures appear to
continue to function with antialiasing on under WinXP with IE, but not
function using Safari, Chrome or Firefox. I first discovered it using FF
3.0.14 under RHEL5. Both my linux box and windows machine are running a
very recent install of java (v 6 update 17). I do not have a Mac to test
that environment...

ii) when I turn on zshading (LOVE IT), my translucent surfaces become
undisplayed. Turning zshade off re-displays the surfaces. I'm using VDW
surfaces only, so I don't know if this applies to any other type of
surface. Here is an example of one of my surface creation commands:

javascript:jmolScript('select (:Z or pdbligand) and not solvent; isosurface
ligZsurface ignore(protein or solvent) vdw -80% select(:Z or pdbligand)
SASURFACE RESOLUTION 50.0 translucent on ;');

BTW, if surfaces are made opaque then they continue to remain displayed when
zshade is turned on. I've tried translucencies from 5-95% and the effect is
the same.

I've observed the surface on/off issue under both Linux (RHEL5) and WinXP
using Firefox (linux: version 3.0.14 / WinXP: version 3.5) and IE (Win
only). I have the most recent java on both machines (version 6 update 17).

Any insights/suggestions?

Many thanks as always!
-Tom

PS - The zshading was my inspiration to upgrade the site since the
perception of depth is so greatly enhanced -- I really hope this is a minor
issue so that I can deploy it!
