Hi Eric,

Thank you for the vote of support! We currently have a
completed web container, supporting Servlet 2.2, JSP and our
preferred presentation solution (XMLC) in the labs. This will
first see the light of day as part of the current Enhydra
platform, but is exactly the same code going into Enhydra
Enterprise. We have made an effort to make Enhydra very easy to
set up and use and we have the same goals for Enhydra Enterprise.

BTW If you need a 100% java Servlet platform today give
Enhydra a try (www.enhydra.org). IMHO it is a whole lot better
than Jrun and although it does not support JSP it's offers two
alternatives (JDDI - very similar to JSP and exists because it
pre-dates JSP) and XMLC which allows you to write your
presentation logic in an object oriented fashion completely
separating the designers and developers. A load-balancing and
fail-over system is being added and should be available in two
weeks.

Cheers,

    Paul.

Subject: Enhydra: Re: Current status of Jonas

Hi,
Just wanted to chime in as a current user of Jonas and future
user of Enhydra that
this is great news for the free software community. Hopefully the
combined enterprise
server will be as easy to install and get running as the Orion
Server,
http://www.orionserver.com and eventually have tools similar to
the J2EE reference
platform(too bad the reference platform only works on
Win32/Solaris as we use Linux).

If the integrated http and servlet container/JSP is production
ready, we will deploy
on this platform as soon as it's ready. Our EJB will follow
closely. Currently we
deploy using Apache/JRun (currently 1.0 JSP not 1.1 and servlet
2.1) which is too
difficult to configure/ maintain on Windows,AIX,Linux etc so we
are looking for a
100% Java solution.

We also have need for virtual hosts in our http server which
makes things even harder
to maintain for our support.

Hope this helps,
Eric :-)
