No we get to meet a lot of Americans, especially in the cities. that is where the impression comes from. When i first came to the UK it took me ages to get used to the cold exterior of people. I had been in Australia for years previously and the Aussies are pretty much the same-much more gregarious. It is easier to get to know an American/Aussie than it is a Brit. Mind you having said that,it does seem to be a southern thing. Up north people are much more friendly and outgoing. The middle and upper classes are also much more uptight and reserved. Strangely, the upper clases are the least snobby and from my experience, the lower classes are the most snobby. Brits like Americans haev an annoying arrogance about their country being the best and tend to look down upon those not British or American.
